Air Conditioning Service Cost Factors
Air conditioning service and repair are quoted on request; our diagnostic visit is charged from £120 +VAT. Typical UK market ranges are £95–£150 per unit for a routine split-system service, £150–£300 for a multi-split visit and £250–£500 for ducted or VRF systems; the confirmed price for anything beyond the diagnostic visit depends on equipment, access, parts and refrigerant work.
Typical UK market ranges
Our own diagnostic visit is charged from £120 +VAT and covers fault assessment, error-code reading and written findings. Published UK cost guides and competitor rate cards then give a useful budgeting picture for the work that follows: a one-off service on a single split system typically runs £95–£150 per unit. A multi-split with two to four indoor heads typically costs £150–£300 per visit, because each head is cleaned and checked in turn. Ducted and VRF systems typically run £250–£500 per visit and are often serviced six-monthly. A deep clean and sanitise is usually an add-on of £60–£150 per indoor head every two to three years.
For repairs, published guides put common replacement parts at roughly £100+ for a thermostat, £200+ for a fan or expansion valve, £300+ for leak repairs and circuit boards, £400+ for an evaporator, £600+ for a condenser and £1,000+ for a compressor — at which point replacement of the unit is often more economical. Refrigerant leak detection and repair typically starts around £300 depending on access and refrigerant type. Planned maintenance agreements are commonly priced from around £195 per system per year for twice-yearly visits.
Apart from our diagnostic visit, these figures are indicative market ranges, not our rate card. Every job beyond the diagnostic visit is quoted on request and confirmed in writing before work proceeds.
Servicing and cleaning
A quote considers indoor and outdoor quantities, filters, coil condition, drainage, ceiling or roof access and cleaning scope. A light residential split differs from a multi-zone commercial system. Confirm what inspections, consumables and reports are included.
Fault diagnosis and replacement parts
Diagnosis establishes whether the problem is settings, airflow, drainage, controls, electrical components or the circuit. Parts availability, model revision, commissioning and the underlying cause affect a repair proposal. A diagnostic visit is not a fixed-price guarantee to restore any system.
Refrigerant and circuit work
Leak accessibility, refrigerant type and quantity, recovery, repairs, pressure testing and evacuation affect circuit-work costs. We do not price an unexplained regular top-up. Vehicle AC is excluded. Discuss staged investigation where a leak is concealed.
Contracts and multi-site work
An asset survey, usage, visit frequency, access and postcode coverage inform a maintenance contract. Separate agreed routine tasks from chargeable repairs and statutory checks. Multi-site coordination does not establish a guaranteed attendance time or unlimited parts allowance.
Request an itemised quotation
All work is quoted on request. The scope depends on the equipment, fault, access, labour, parts and any refrigerant work. Diagnostic findings and the proposed repair should be agreed before additional work proceeds; a service visit is not a promise that every repair or replacement part is included.
Use the ServiceM8 booking form for an engineer or quotation with the site postcode, indoor and outdoor model references, fault description, controller code and access requirements. Select the requested urgency; emergency or within-48-hour selections are requests, not guaranteed attendance times. Refrigerant and electrical work require appropriately qualified personnel.
The quote should state the proposed tasks, exclusions, parts, any applicable VAT and access assumptions before work is agreed.
Frequently asked questions
Do you publish fixed servicing rates?
Our diagnostic visit is published: from £120 +VAT. Everything beyond it is quote-on-request based on the equipment and agreed scope. Typical UK market ranges — £95–£150 per unit for a split-system service, £250–£500 for ducted or VRF — are shown for budgeting only.
What does a typical service cost in the UK?
Published UK guides put a diagnostic visit at £90–£150 (our own is from £120 +VAT), a one-off split-system service at £95–£150 per unit, a multi-split visit at £150–£300, and ducted or VRF servicing at £250–£500. Maintenance agreements commonly start from around £195 per system per year. Your confirmed quote follows assessment of the equipment and access.
Are parts included automatically?
No. A quotation identifies included parts and work; additional repairs require agreement.
How do I request a price?
